Kevin Robinson speaks on the controversy issue of hip hop vs. hip 'pop'

Hip-hop in the nature of the threat of capitalism is a problem that is not new to the culture. Venture capitalists such as Viacom, MTV, and BET have come into the hip hop culture and turned it into a cash cow. What a lot of people do not seem to realize about hip-hop is that it is much more than music, it is a culture. Break dancing, graffiti, and turntablism are the 3 other corresponding elements of the hip-hop culture that are often forgotten and misinterpreted. It has always been a truly interesting thing to me to see how conglomerate companies like Viacom could take a culture as raw as the day it was birthed in the streets of New York City, and strip down the music into a minstrel entertainment ground for the current generation that are now in there growing teenage and elementary years. But, the so-called genre of hip-hop that is portrayed through the mediums of radio and TV airwaves to the youth is what I like to call “hip-pop.” The whole message in the music has been lost; you now can turn on your television set to MTV or BET (both owned by the same conglomerate, Viacom) and see the 21st This diamond-laden jewelry that these cats worship and exalt so highly looks like an iced-out noose and shackles to me. The overly-gaudy clothing that these cats rock shuckin’ and juvin’ on the television sets looks like the stereotype of the Zip Coon here to entertain the middle-class white kids that consume 70 percent of hip-pop albums. century minstrel show for yourself.

Viacom has stripped down the true hidden message of upbringing, pride, and self-awareness that was birthed and installed into the true essence of hip-hop music. Since Viacom and Clear Channel damn near own all of the television and radio stations in this country, they control the mainstream music market. Why would they distribute hip-hop music with a higher message and purpose when they can keep the youth in disarray and brainwashed with the minstrel show rappers out now? Exactly; it’s a huge cash cow to them. What sense does it make to be a “hip-pop” artist when you do not have the control over what can be placed on your album? The more ignorant the music gets, the more ignorant the youth become. Hip-hop music is a huge influence on people’s lives (our youth’s especially); as long as hip-hop artists still allow themselves and their talent to be stripped down and glittered up in the ridiculous jewelry, hip-hop will forever in Nasir Jones’ words be dead. But, to me, it will never be dead; it’s just on life support. Support the independent hip-hop music movement.

Ms. Keys has a sneeking suspicion of the orgin of "gangsta rap"

If you haven't heard already Alicia Keys was recently interviewed by Blender Magazine and decided to share some rather interesting thoughts on "gangsta rap"

‘Gangsta rap’ was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. ‘Gangsta rap’ didn’t exist.’

Keys, 27, said she’s read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck ‘to symbolize strength, power and killing ’em dead,’ according to an interview in the magazine’s May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.

Another of her theories: That the bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled ‘by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing.’”

Online the rumours of her Mel Gibson's "Conspiracy Theory" have been running rampid. Although while seemingly off point I don't she's crazy as a lot of bloggers are thinking. The best way to describe it would be the way Jay Smooth did:

{youtube}rtsmvbSHvXw{/youtube}

So, question to you all…has she gone off the deep end or does wifey have a good point (just misunderstood as it is)?

She's back ladies and gentlemen – with Hip Hop thoughts on the AllStar Game, recent NBA trades, Flava Flaaaaaaaav, and MORE!{mosimage}

I said it was coming back, didn't I? I haven't blessed peeps with a new blog but it's finally gonna happen. There has been a lot of things in my mind happening in hip hop and outside. Best way for me to get through this is by bullet format, keeping it 8th grade PowerPoint style, even with pictures to entertain the ADD folks.

-First off, I enjoy reading some of the articles from HipHopDX but recently, they did an article called "WTF". WTF? Article. While it was humorous, they asked why would the NBA host the 2008 NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans and then called the city (the city I was born and reside in) "ravaged confines" and also said "That's like throwing a steak into a cage full of hungry, homeless, angry, waiting on their FEMA check pitbulls." PAUSE. I appreciate the sentiment and I agree, I didn't like the fact the game was here. But what was the point being so offensive. The writer painted New Orleanians as dogs begging for goverment supplement. This "ravaged confine" is still home to thousands of people who are ready to put the diasater of Hurricane Katrina behind and having a celebrity filled event that attracts tourism (which is the number one income of the city) doesn'y hurt economically or morally. Guess they didn't expect a homeless and angry pitbull to notice that right? Still have love for HHDX though, just be more informed next time.

-Does anyone remember that Public Enemy track, where Flava Flav says "Blind to the fact, cause you watching that garbage!". Am I the only person who find this horrible but hilariously ironic since Flav is now the garbage people are watching? (btw, Shy ass is crazy!!!!).

How true is this picture now?

-Who knew that shouting "Yahh Trick Yahhh" will get you nominated for a Grammy these days? For the first time in my life, I was relieved the Grammys don't show the Hip Hop award on television.

-P.S., Did you see how salty Kanye was losing to Herbie Hancock while walking away with four Grammys? No pleasing that man. Kanye has some bitchassness and its contagious (c) P. "Take That" Diddy.

-Shaq went to the Suns and they lost Shaun Marion. Guess you can't have the pefect "run and gun" offense without a 35 year old, 325 pound lazy bastard on your squad.

-How great is it that cats like KRS-One, Pete Rock, eMC, and Q-Tip are all having 2008 releases? '08 is starting to look a lot better. I also can't forget the new album by Ms. Badu. "Honey" is that JOINT.

Watch "Honey" video.

-Okay, '08 isn't going to be that great. Our favorite gay rapper (No, not MC Booty Meat) Lil' Wayne has just confirmed The Carter III release in April. Dumb niggas everywhere rejoice! And, have you ever noticed, most people (i.e. dumb niggas) who listen to Lil' Wayne also listen to Lupe Fiasco because they claim to be "on that smart shit"? Just a thought.

-Go Obama, Go Obama!

Barack N' Roll.

-Jim Jones has gone too far with beefing. The dirtiest dude in Dipset is still going at Jay-Z. He even titled his new album "Harlem's American Gangster". Both albums though share more than just a name in common, both were wack. Oh yes, I went there. I still got love for Jay-Z and because of that I say, Hov, get a restraining order made of platnium and diamonds. (Balllinnnnnnnn)

Check out Jimmy's Turban wear.

-Dear BET, Stop hating and let the Boondocks broadcast their episode about your evil plans. Only time people deny something this much, it must be true. Guess McGruder went to far into the monkey hole. (Unckle Ruckus reference, yes!)

Clip of Banned Boondocks episode

That's all I have for now people, but in this great (and disappointing) world of Hip Hop, I'll have more to talk about by tomorrow. Peace, Love & Hip Hop.

Taking a look back at 2007 MichBoogie lets us know what was hot and what wasn't in hip hop. What stories stood out, some dope videos of the year and what to look for in 2008.

Well, it’s that time again. Another year has come to an end and with that is the best of 2007, hip hop wise. Let me also explain that these are my opinions on the best and worst of 2007 and doesn’t reflect any one else but myself. But if you are the type of fan that thought Curtis was one of the best albums of the year, stop reading my blogs and go kill yourself. (Joking, or am I? I’m not.) So, when coming to the end of 2007, what did hip hop really offer? Well, it surely offered some disastrous moments for the genre, but there were also some hidden jewels of 2007. Let’s forget about the Michael Vick scandal, the shooting of Spice 1, and Don Imus and let’s celebrate the great moments of 2007 and what is expected of hip hop in 2008.

Top 10 Albums of 2007

You already knew what was first, my top 10 albums of ’07. Some you may have heard of and some you might be asking “wtf”. But nonetheless, these were the ten dopest LPs I heard in a year full of disappointments, even from veterans.

10. Evidence-The Weatherman LP (Released 03/20/2007)-When artists decide to go solo from their already solidified groups, it usually spells out to disaster. However, in his solo debut, Dilated Peoples’ Evidence rose above the naysayers and the doubts. Being praised by Okayplayer as the best slept-on LP of 2007, Evidence delivers with hot lyrics and hotter beats. Featuring production from The Alchemist, Jake One, DJ Khalil, Sid Roams, and Evidence his self, the West Coast MC put his mark on the underground hip hop scene as a solo artist to be reckoned with. Who knew it could rain in Southern California?

9. Kano-London Town (Released 09/10/2007)-If I said it once, I’ll say it again, the US has to stop sleeping on the UK hip hop scene, especially in 2007. One of the best albums dropping from our boys across the pond was Grime/UKHH sensation, Kano. This year, he took home the award for best International Act at the BET Hip Hop Awards and has received international praise for his album, London Town. His first single, “This Is the Girl” featuring Craig David blazed the UK charts but it was tracks like his politically charged “Fightin’ The Nation”, the nostalgic laced “Me & My Microphone”, and the grimy bass track “Buss It Up” that made this the best UK hip hop album of 2007.

8. Little Brother-Getback (Released 10/23/2007)- Little Brother and the Justus League has always held it down for the Southern underground scene, but this album was seen as skeptical with the loss of producer, 9th Wonder. However, leave it to Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh to bounce back and still release one of the best albums of the year. Moving away from the Minstrel Show theme, LB goes back into their old formula used from The Listening. As Phonte calls it “dope beats and dope rhymes”. Provided with soulful production from Khrysis, Hi-Tek, and Zo!, features from newcomer Carlitta Durand and the “prettiest motherfucking hypeman in the business” Darien Brockington, Little Brother delivers tracks that satisfy both your partying mood and those looking for some lyrical ability. Rapper Big Pooh also gives a nice surprise in stepped up lyrics. Getback definitely takes back Little Brother to the “Shorty on the Lookout” days and is a great pickup for ’07.

7. Talib Kweli-Eardrum (Released 08/14/2007)-Coming back with his fourth solo album and also his first album released on his label, Blacksmith, Talib Kweli shows why he can drop an album that pleases both the underground and mainstream circuit without losing his creative identity in the midst of it. Eardrum leads into the track, Hostile Gospel Pt. 1 where Kweli off the back, spits hot fire “I call these rappers baby seals, cause they club you to death/ I could call 'em Navy SEALs, cause they government feds/ What become of the vets? They drugged up, they fucked up, they in debt/There ain't no love and no respect, it's like a gang it's like a club or a set.” While taking a commercial outlook, Talib still provides tracks worth giving more than one spin to. He pleases the lady fans with his will.i.am produced “Hot Thing” and appeals to the Southern fans with a track with Houston’s greats, UGK on “Country Cousins”. However, it’s in tracks like “Listen!!!” and “Give ‘Em Hell” that we see the political and socially focused Kweli we have come to know and love.

6. Y Society-Travel At Your Own Pace (Released 10/08/2007)-Representing the boom bap resurgence is Insight and Damu the Fudgemonk, also known as Y Society. This album title represents everything that this album stands for, being yourself and going at your own pace. Incorporating old school scratches and beats and insightful lyrics from Insight, this album broke many molds of traditional hip hop but somehow, portraying perfectly what old school hip hop is all about. With feel good tracks like “Dizzy”, “At My Own Pace”, and “Good Communication”, Insight locks you in with lyrics that amaze you and make you move at the same time. Both Insight and Damu compliment each other so well and it translates perfectly on the 16-track LP. Y Society also shows some concern to our society, politics, and everyday issues we face. Travel at Your Own Pace is an album that can inspire any human being to live life as you please and to never stop thinking, something it seems Damu and Insight were aiming for.

5. Common-Finding Forever (Released 07/31/2007)-Finding Forever was 2007’s best commercial/mainstream hip hop album. Common picks up on FF where he left off on Be. Common once again delivers poignant spoken word styled lyrics over chill soul beats to create the perfect combination of musical harmony. Backed by strong leading tracks, “The Game” and “The People”, Common raps about what he knows best: life and the struggles of people. We see Common strongly urging the awareness of AIDS, the price of fame, and damaged relationships in tracks like “Misunderstood” and “Drivin’ Me Wild”. However, Common proves how versatile he can be with hard hitting tracks like “Southside”. Finding Forever is another great work from the Chi-Town veteran.

4. Mr. J. Medeiros (Of The Procussions)-Of Gods and Girls (Released 07/24/2007)-Actually released in 2006, the album was re-released in 2007 with an enhanced album. Mr. J. Medeiros is 1/3 of the Colorado hip hop group, The Procussions. On his first solo album, Medeiros successfully shakes the doubts of going out on his own in an album that beautifully balances the beauty of life and its uglier side. When speaking out on the ugly side of life, Medeiros delivers sharp lyrics over a great production of beats. In tracks like “King of Rock Bottom”, he speaks about the illness of alcoholism, critiques people’s obsession with monetary value with Pigeon John on “Money”, but he may be most known for his startling story of a 13-year old sex slave in “Constance”. But while speaking on the positives of life, Medeiros provides light but powerful lyrics professing his love for the perfect woman on cuts like “Her Wings” or the development of a love on tracks like “Amelie”. Also backed by hard hitting remixes by Ohmega Watts and Joey Beats, Of Gods and Girls is one of the strongest solo debuts I’ve heard in a while.

3. El-P-I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead (Released 03/20/2007)-It wasn’t the best album of 2007, but it was the strangest and most confusing. On his second offering to hip hop, El-P indecipherably raps about social problems and to be blunt, the fuck ups of people over his dark, intruding production. While smacking us in the face with our flaws, he takes a sarcastic but humorous approach, such as our obsession with useless celebrities on “The League of Extraordinary Nobodies” or the doom of our generation on “Drive” stating lyrics like “C’mon ma, can I borrow the keys?/ My generation is car pooling with doom and disease.” One of the better tracks on this album “The Overly Dramatic Truth” can be addicting, but at one point, disturbing as it is about a man trying to end his underage sexual relationship with a girl. With El-P’s gut wrenching production and bitter lyrics, I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead is the best pessimistic album you might ever hear.

2. Blu & Exile-Below the Heavens (Released 07/17/2007)-Coming out of right field, I discovered this album less than a month ago, but it had a huge enough impact to make its way to the number two spot. Blu & Exile consists of 21-year old emcee Blu and his producer, Exile (also of Emanon). Exile perfectly executes the production of this album, which seems to be very reminiscent to the glory days of 90s hip hop. However, nothing I can say or cleverly write about can explain how truly talented Blu really is. With story-telling lyrics very similar to Nas, Blu flows effortlessly over Exile’s beats talking about what any 21 year old talks about: girls, money, working a deadbeat job, family, the tough times of life, and the struggle of defining oneself. The only thing different about Blu and some other 21 year old is, Blu talks about it better. With heart-earning bangers like “The Narrow Path”, “Soul Amazing”, and “No Greater Love”, Blu shows exactly why he was voted Okayplayer’s Rookie of the Year.

CunninLynguists-Dirty Acres (Released 11/27/2007)- Finally we get to the number one album, who more deserving than Southern-based underground group who has been putting it down for 15 years without any serious recognition. Dirty Acres, while being more laid back than earlier works, still perfectly exudes what hip hop music should be: amazing lyrics with a message laid over amazing beats. As known, CL examines the problems of society, hip hop, and racial tensions in our country. In the track “Dirty Acres”, it is laid down bluntly at how obvious our problems are, “Killing’ our livers cause we dying so fast….” / fuck putting these bars on paper there’s bars in the face of half my niggas across the country.” “Georgia” is the most lyrically strong track on the album, but even with these songs touching on the negativity of society, we see tracks like “Yellow Lines” featuring Phonte and Witchdoctor. With a great feature from Phonte, this was my favorite chill track of the year. While it may not be the same approach taken by CL 15 years, it was a great change and definitely for the better. No single review can explain why and how this is the best hip hop album of 2007. The only judgment can be your ears and owning this album is something you need to do before 2008.

Honorable Mentions of 2007

They didn’t make the top 10 list, but these were still very solid efforts of 2007. Don’t sleep on these albums either!

-KanYe West-Graduation

-Luckyiam-Most Likely to Succeed

-Dizzee Rascal-Maths and English

-Sean Price-Jesus Price Supastar

-Hi-Tek-Hi-Teknology 3

-Royce Da 5’9- The Bar Exam (Mixtape)

-DJ Jazzy Jeff- The Return of the Magnificent

-Somobe-The Great Communication

-Brother Ali- The Undisputed Truth

-9th Wonder-The Dream Merchant Vol. 2

Top 5 Videos of 2007

These videos were innovative, creative, mind blowing, and just fun as hell to watch. With 90% of music videos being nothing but ass, dollars, and cars (cliché, I know.), these five videos were a breath of fresh air.

5. The Cool Kids

Artists to Watch in 2008

Nas: He isn’t a new artist, but the Queensbridge native is still keeping his name in the spotlight. Over the last few months of 2007, Nas has released statements on releasing his next album, Nigger. The title has caused controversy and tensions within his label, political leaders, and even fans a like. With such a power album name, Nas has hip hop fans on the edge seeing if he can deliver an album on the same level as Illmatic or just a hyped up “average” album.

The Cool Kids (www.myspace.com/gocoolkids): Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish have blasted onto the “geek/skateboard” scene with their single, “Black Mags”, an ode to Dyno bikes. The straight to Youtube video and single was noticed by Rolling Stone in 2007, making it to the number 53 spot on the 100 best singles of 2007. They have already toured with international star, M.I.A. and touring into the 2008 year, The Cool Kids have made a name for their self. It is also been rumored, they have been signed to Columbia Records.

Jay Electronica: Being the first artist signed to Erykah Badu’s label, Control Freaq, Jay Electronica has started an underground following with his StyleWars EP. The New Orleans native received buzz on hip hop sites and blogs from his track “Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge)”. Electronica announced a second act was to be released on Christmas Day of 2007, but for some reason it was postponed but will be dropping soon. With heavy lyrics and production from some of the biggest names, such as J Dilla and features from Nas, Jay Electronica may be the South’s true king.

Wiz Khalifa (www.myspace.com/wizkhalifa): This self-proclaimed Prince of Pittsburgh has already created international buzz in 2007 touring and opening for both Lupe Fiasco and Nas. Only 19 years of age, Wiz Khalifa has released three major mixtapes: Show and Prove, Prince of the City, and Prince of the City 2. Being a producer and emcee, Khalifa has showed his skill on tracks like “Youngin’ On His Grind” and also releasing a video for “Pittsburgh Sound”, which has seen rotation on Fuse.

Saigon (www.myspace.com/saigonthayardfather): While Saigon received a lot of attention in 2007 for punching Mobb Deep’s Prodigy, threatening to slap a woman on Shade45 Radio, and for “quitting” hip hop, “Tha Yardfather” has made major moves in 2007, being signed to Hip Hop Since 1978/Atlantic Records and also releasing his Pain In My Life EP with a video as well. However, it was his single “Come on Baby” that really bought the attention to the Brooklyn rapper. His remix with hip hop legend, Jay-Z has been garnered as one of the best street bangers of 2007. Hoping that he doesn’t quit again, his first major released album, The Greatest Story Never Told, is to be out in 2008.

Biggest Disappointments of 2007

You can’t have the good without the bad, can you? 2007 had its pleasant surprises, but it definitely had its obvious disasters. Here are my disappointments of 2007.

T.I. Gets Charged with Felony Weapon Charges

“Do not free T.I.” was the surprising yell of many hip hop fans. Atlanta’s own T.I. was caught in the possession of dangerous firearms on 10/13/2007, hours before the BET Hip Hop Awards. The true disappointment is a successful commercial rapper such as T.I. continuing the image of being a “gangsta rapper”. T.I. has sold millions of records, won Grammy awards, but yet still felt the need to put out a message he was a rapper to be reckoned with, not just on wax, but on the streets. This bravado led to his arrest and his third strike (T.I. is already a convicted felon) and he will be prosecuted by the assistant US attorney. Great way to throw your life away, I guess his only plea is T.I.P. did it.

Lack of Response to Jena 6

Hip Hop artists were rarely seen at the Jena, LA rally on Septmeber 20, 2007. Not only that, there was a lack of response from hip hop artists on the racially charged attacks in the small Louisiana town. While Mos Def and Bun B of UGK were two of the biggest names in the town protesting, it was clear that hip hop was more caught up in the Kanye v. 50 Cent beef to care about six black boys unfairly treated and charged. Even David Bowie provided 10,000 dollars to help afford defense for Mychal Bell, who was actually sentenced to time in jail. Instead of hip hop always writing about hard it was growing up a black male, how about showing support to those actually living it right now. However, this lack of response was also seen politically. What is unknown about the Jena 6 situation is that it happened in 2006 and was bought to media attention in 2007. The former governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Blanco did not give any attention to the situation whatsoever, not even at the time of the rally. Nothing was heard from President Bush and Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson only came around for more camera time.

Lupe Fiasco comments on A Tribe Called Quest

Dubbed “Fiascogate” by many hip hop blog sites, the whole controversy centers around Lupe Fiasco messing up the words to ATCQ’s biggest hits “Electric Relaxation” and “Scenario” at the 2007 VH1’s Hip Hop Honors. Fiasco than went on to post comments on OkayPlayer stating that he Q-Tip was “adamant” on him performing and went on to say, he didn’t listen to ATCQ, especially their 1993 classic album, Midnight Marauders. The whole problem is, Lupe Fiasco isn’t really the first emcee you would peg on growing up on West Coast gangsta rap, as the Chicago MC said him self. With a flow and voice similar to Q-Tip and tracks that seemed to be very ATCQ inspired on both of his albums, it seems weird how Lupe thinks otherwise. None the less, the way Lupe went about this was cocky and arrogant. He is still a fresh rapper to the game and should learn to give respect where it’s due. Read about the whole “fiasco” here: http://www.vh1.com/news/articles/1571748/20071011/story.jhtml

Joe Budden

Once a promising commercial rapper with his hit single “Pump It Up”, Joe Budden retreated to the underground hip hop scene and released two mixtapes, Mood Musik 1 and 2, which received praise from critics and internet fans. But in 2007, Joe Budden continued to push back the anticipated release of his second album The Growth under Def Jam and the third installment to Mood Musik. Budden than followed many Def Jam artists, like LL Cool J and put the blame on Jay-Z for his works not dropping. In late 2007, it was reported Joe Budden was officially dropped from the Def Jam roster and MM3 was once again pushed back. When MM3 finally dropped, it left many people disappointed, not living up to the hype of MM1 and MM2. Now, Budden is saying The Growth will be released on an independent label but continues to whine about Jay-Z, this is especially seen in MM3 with many subliminal and direct disses thrown to the former Def Jam president. While many still have hope in Budden, some people have grown tired of his antics.

Final Thoughts & Thank You’s!

Finally, I come to the end of this blog. 2007 was an okay year for hip hop, we saw great releases and we saw bad ones. My only word to hip hop fans is to look deeper for quality music because it is there, do not succumb to the commercial garbage on the radio and TV! I can only hope in 2008, we will see a resurrection of good hip hop music and see artists who have been grinding for so long receive their long awaited dues. I started writing in August and I am proud of what I have accomplished so far. My plans for 2008 are to get Hip Hop Since ’88 Radio out to the masses and to see my writing on a bigger level. You think I can make it to allhiphop or Oh Word? Haha. Okay, so thanking those who have been supportive of me. Let me thank all my friends, such as Romere for pushing me to continue writing, special thanks to Danielle and Amanda who do my graphic work and banners for the site. Thank you to everyone who reads and comments my blogs, it is so appreciated. Thank you to Nathan Driver for allowing me to get more exposure on his site HipHopRemix (www.hiphopremix.com). Also, thanks to Bored Stiff for giving me the first “promise” of an interview. Even though we haven’t done it yet!! Thanks to Vonnegutt and especially Kyle Lucas for my first interview for my blog. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Without these people, I’d probably be rambling to myself. So on that note, Happy New Years!

{mosimage}MichBoogie is back with her thoughts on 50's newest tirade, rappers getting reality shows and how the underground/indie circuit is killing 'em!

Thoughts of a Hip Hop Addict Vol. 1

This week, I’ve been up and down with the state of hip hop. What’s funny though, it seems the mainstream continues to piss me off while the underground/impendent scene just seem to do everything right. Let me talk about the ups from underground music for me and the serious downs from the mainstream this week. So, I’d rather knock out the dumb shit first.

50 Cent was recently on Shade45 Radio stirring up a whole crock pot of unnecessary beef with old foes and legend ones. I also have to add, the DJ from Shade45 whoever he was didn’t make it better. He was really stirring up the shit and this reminds me of an incident with Angie Martinez a couple of years back. DJs need to have more neutral positions especially when this is going to get back to the artists being dissed, what is the DJ going to do than? Stick to spinning Top 25 Billboard records; don’t get involved with the beef of wack ass artists.

Now back to 50 on Shade45. 50 went on dissing Ja Rule, Fat Joe, but what was really weird, he dissed P. Diddy and Nas and Kelis. The comments towards Diddy just were confusing as hell. He commented saying Diddy “used to be cute” and “he even made Biggie cute” back in the day. I don’t want to quote Cam’Ron but wow, no homo dawwgie. He than went on to misquote Diddy’s top selling cologone Unforgivable as Forever, and said Diddy sold tons of pounds of ProActive. It’s really unclear if he was actually dissing him or not. He also ran his mouth about Jay-Z and American Gangster. He said Jay-Z used marketing money for his new album and let the rest of the Def Jam roster. He then moves on to say Nas has no buzz saying his greatest hits album flopped but tried to backtrack saying it was only because of weak fourth-quarter sales. To make matters worse, he brings in Kelis and her dropping from her record label, claiming both her and Nas were “cold as ice.” 50 also dropped rumors of Pharrell sleeping with Kelis and there is a video of Kelis being gangbanged. But being the classic corporate slave he is, he found time to plug some new website of his and a G-Unit album (yes..thats what hip hop needs—a new G-Unit album.)

To cut this off, 50 is basically trying to reclaim some turf after his “floppage” on Curtis and being outsold by Kanye West. He also retracted on retiring as part of a “bet” set between the two and tries to label the music as a G-Unit work, not a solo product. It’s a shame what rap niggas do for fame © Common.

Snoop Dogg is going to have a show on the E! Network titled Fatherhood and its airing this week. I don’t think I need to say much about this. What’s with giving all these rappers/hip hop artists reality shows? We have Run’s House, Salt N Pepa have a show, Flava of Love, Gotti’s Way with Irv Gotti, and now Snoop Dogg. Has hip hop music been that assimilated with pop culture of the 00s? Hip Hop artists are just becoming pop references for blooper reels from their shows instead of putting out classic material. It’s a sad year for hip hop.

Rumor has it that Def Jam had some lay-offs according to allhiphop.com. All I can say is, I hope it’s not true because there have been some really good releases at the moment.

For the good things, it’s been all about the underground. That’s because I’ve been discovering music that makes me so happy, I can actually forget about the monstrosities mentioned above.

First album I discovered was a duo joint by a group called The Unspoken Heard. This group consists of producer Blue Black and rapper Asheru. If you don’t know who that is, Asheru is the cat that does the Boondocks theme song. Trust me; it only gets better on their album, 48 Months. It’s a collection of sharp spoken word lyrics on neo-soul infused hip hop beats. I don’t want to go into some long ass review but check out that album. Track Runners off that album>>>>>>>>life. 7 minutes of real hip hop music.

Another artist I just discovered would be Jay Electronia, an artist from my hometown of New Orleans. He is the first artist signed to Erykah Badu’s label and dropped an EP titled StyleWars. Its sick as hell and this dude has so much talent and raw potential. It made me happy to see that New Orleans wasn’t just filled with Lil’ Wayne wannabes (let me say this as well, don’t strive to be like Lil’ Wayne, he is garbage as fuck.) Anyways, this album is floating around everywhere so you will be able to find it if you want to hear some great ass hip hop.

Last but not least, Tony Yayo accused Ghostface of not writing Supreme Clientele, Ghostface’s most acclaimed hip hop album. So in response to what was said, Ghostface had this to say “He couldn't make an album, you feel me? I made Supreme Clientele what it is. Those are my stories, based around whatever they're based upon. It's me… But, Yayo can suck a fat dick. Tell him I said that” Not the most mature comment, but it was a great one nonetheless.

That’s about it for me this week; I just also noticed that this is long as hell. Oh well, keep on pushing people. Real Hip Hop Lives.

{mosimage}Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeee's back ladies and gentlemen – from the Hogans divorcing to Superhead's great techniques – iFux breaks down life in its most simple form the only way iFux can. Straight COMEDY

I am glad to be back up in this bitch! As always I would like to big up Nathan and mostly because he respects my E-Gansta and Diddybop.

I would like to put up my Darr up against anyone my Darr is mad reputable. By Dar I mean gay-darr , Tranny-darr, gangster-darr, I can spot any of which anywhere like a white cop spots minorities, *grips up taser*.

I was at the Zoo the other day (what bitch I got my membership game up) and it was read that bears sleep 20 hours a day. I think besides the obvious which is that bears need to get their work ethic up, that polar bears enjoy Coca-Cola. *queues music* The more you know…..

Speaking of the Zoo(my favorite place this side of the Amazon and whorehouses) I saw mad amounts of Meer-Cats them fuckers have an incredible DiddyBop .

The Hulkster is getting a divorce, So sad. Hurt me inside to find out that his wife was divorcing him because he is the Hulkster 24/7 and can never just be Terry. Why do you want Terry when you have the Hulkster, Brother!

*Fuxie grabs Brook Hogans ass reaches around to make sure there is no balls* Touche' !

*takes writing break, reads the World According to Pretty Toney*

OK I'm Back

So there is some kind of strike with writers, I heard. Well if you find my writing enjoyable or at the very least funny holler at me. I have no problem what so ever scabbing it up. Is Scabbing even a word. Well I don't fucking care Ima' scab it up if I can.

I haven't mentioned Superhead in like forever it seems. So I wanted to say the other day I watched a p0rn(on my ipod) with her in it where she completely and thoroughly handled Mr.Marcus. What a performance, pro and true to the art of dick sucking. She most be a connoisseur or something. *stands up and claps* Like My Homie Crazy from Alumnah.com said "Superhead is the Blowprint"

Somebody intimated to me that I talk too much about sex here, well who cares I might as well talk about it if I ain't getting it. Word to getting dumped by a lovely girl because she found my "Blog" and read it. I just write to write nothing is ever that serious here. Well maybe that one time I mentioned my dick's name "fuerte" I do actually call him that. So what do I do the minute I find out this chick wont return my only call which went something like this "Its Fuxie call me back" , I went out with a chick and fucked her and I put some effort behind it this time. *wipes himself down*

I went to the Charger game with the homies (See Fabe dogg Brian Giles and I here) , We drunk it up and had a generally good time. I was the one yelling "Lets Get All up In Boller's Ass". Anyways, some drunk ass dude after the game caught something very similar to this to his chin and was out cold, it was quite enjoyable live action I might add. This Good Samaritan type then comes up to me and asks "Hey what did the guy that hit him look like" He must have gotten my drunk ass confused so I was like "What the fuck do you care what he looked like are you the fucking police, keep it moving bitch!". Then I realized, that I at times am mad ignorant and not very friendly. What you don't know cant hurt you(c) Mario Winans. No Snitching!

Mediatakeout.com those dudes over there I kind of cool. They just don't give a fuck about libel or something. I fux with them heavy for all my gossip.

So this dude got arrested for "simulating sex with his bike" (click here for story). Yo this is wild like what did he say to the bike "OK baby we are at 2 speed and I am going to jump up to 10 or is that too much too fast, OK OK I will up it a little first, you ready, breathe easy, ohhhhh your torque and braking is sooooo good right now ugggggghhhh I am coming I am coming". The bike lost inevitably that's for sure, somebody needs to adopt that bike and place it in a good home. Take it out for some rides in the park and WD-40 it up treat that bike how it likes to be treated, which is a bike not some sex object. WD-40 is the grown up version of "Put some Tussin on it". WD-40 it up(c) Fuxie I made that ish up up by the way. Big Up E-Rep for the article.

So I fancy Myself a quasi-typing comedian. And since every comedian has a "shit joke" here is mine. I went to a friends and used their restroom took off the top of the toilet where it has the pump and lever and took a shit there. Upper Deckered them Up. Done and hold the applause please.

I am going to take this moment and shout out the most ignorant rapper out, No disrespect. That Dude has to be Uncle Murder. I am at a loss of words, really though. This dude says the dumbest most ignorant shit, google him for real though. Word to Bullet, Bullet!

That's why I am Fuxie, cuz I goes extraordinarily hard where some dudes wont. Just like some dudes crip and some dudes blood and some dudes wont. I am going to continue to go impeccably hard at all times no need to slow down ever. Hard is Hard and the only thing soft is my leather, Word to the homie Chea! Till next time, 1 hundred Holmes!

For as long as I can remember, I've never been the "girlie girl". I'm not concerned with gossip, latest dress fashion, MAC makeup, or whatever else girls these days do. My main loves have always been writing, sports (Panthers, get your act together!), and of course, hip hop. Funny thing is, I'm shunned for it. Not for the sports and writing, but for being an actual hip hop fan. I've had people come up to me at concerts, shows, showcases, giving me funny looks as if I didn't belong. It's the same look as "What's this bitch doing at a REAL hip hop show? Doesn't she have the new J. Holiday album to check out?" It's an exaggeration but you get what I'm saying. From my point of view, it's hard being a hip hop fan while being a female. Female fans in the eyes of others can only be two things: 1. a groupie looking to get instant infamy or 2. The girlfriend of a real hip hop fan that got dragged alone. But I'm not going to say, I haven't seen it. I've seen a fair amount of groupies, both female AND male and I've also seen the bored girlfriends dragged alone. However, that doesn't mean we are all like that. Some females actually love hip hop and probably could bury any other man in knowledge. Can I include myself in this group? I think so and if you don't. We can always discuss it.

So, where is the place of women in hip hop? Well, when I flip on the TV, we can either be video vixens or the over sexual female rapper. Nobody wants to hear you talk about the Golden Age of Hip Hop, just go out there and shake your ass for the camera. Nobody cares if you wrote a song about poverty in the country, rap about your head skills and how you can snatch any bitch's man. It's what sells. But for it to sell, you have to give up dignity and of course, your clothes.

Whatever happened to when women were actually treated like peers in the hip hop community? The days where Salt N Pepa rapped about sex without being considered hoes or when Queen Latifah and Monie Love were all about ladies being first? Or when a female could be rough and tough with her Afro Puffs © Lady of Rage without being considered some angry ass lesbian? Female rappers did not have to be overly sexual to get radio spins, because all that mattered were skills. By the time the 90s were coming to an end, female rappers seem to be fading, well the ones with respect for their selves were. Besides for exceptions like Missy Elliott, Da Brat, and Lauryn Hill, female rappers were taking we they had to get what they want (Player's Club reference, just a lil bit). Lil' Kim came in with the bra all see-through, Foxy Brown had the ill-na-na and well women went from peers to "them hoes that rap".

Now, that's not to say, there were some women who were still rapping about a real message or that there were no female rappers with skills, you just didn't hear about them. But thankfully, I was given the gift of realizing real music when I hear it. Shoutouts to Jean Grae, Mystic, Lady Luck, Missy Elliott, Shsytie, Baby Blu, and especially Lauryn Hill for showing that women can be just as lethal on a mic as the next male rapper. I'm sure I'm missing out on other female rappers and I apologize. I can only write so many for right now.

Females need to reclaim their status in females, whether you are a rapper or just a fan. Being a girl doesn't mean you don't know shit about MF Doom or you can't be anticipating the Saigon album (yes, hurry up Sai Giddy!!) Hip Hop holds no barriers, so don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't listen to. Not all females were feeling Khia's dumb ass and not all females are groupies. I've seen dude groupies aka dickriders, they are much worse. Hip Hop is my life and it's not a bitch. Like Aesop Rock said:

"Life's not a bitch life is a beautiful woman
Your only call her a bitch because she won't let you get that
pussy
Maybe she didn't feel y'all shared any similar interests
or maybe you're just an asshole who couldn't sweet talk the
princess"

Mich Boogie drops some hip hop knowledge – be sure to add her to your friend list

No matter the situation hip hop will get blamed and the recent shooting in northern Ohio is no different.

From the same station that brought you the O'Reilly / Nas beef brings you the John Gibson vs. Hip Hop. Thank you Fox News. In the recent tradegy of the Cleveland, Ohio shooting Gibson all but put the blame on blacks and hip hop culture as whole during his coverage on October 10th. You gotta love the 50 cent music in the background.

{audio}images/mp3s/Gibson_shooting_1.mp3{/audio}

He killed himself. Hip-hoppers do not kill themselves. They walk away. Now, I didn't need to hear the kid was white with blond hair. Once he'd shot himself in the head, no hip-hopper.

Yes, I know the shooter was white. I knew it as soon as he shot himself. Hip-hoppers don't do that. They shoot and move on to shoot again.

So when I heard the kid shot himself, I said, well, you know, ordinarily I would expect it to maybe be a rapper, thug, gangster on campus with his nine – "I shining my nine, you know how I do." But it turns out it was a kid who would shoot himself, well story over, not a black kid.

Then the following day he tries to "fix" it

{audio}images/mp3s/Gibson_shooting_2.mp3{/audio}

Look, the question on the table is, I'm being accused of being a racist for making this observation about an issue we've been talking about here for over a year, and that is the black-on-black boundaries of the African-American community. And when I say I knew this shooter yesterday wasn't black when he committed suicide because that's not what African-American gangster shooters do. They don't shoot somebody and then say, "Oh, I'm so unhappy. This is such a scar on my soul, I've got to shoot myself in the head." Am I right about that or wrong about that?

Fox News has taken a NEW LOW on this.

You can call John Gibson daily from 6 pm to 9 pm ET at 1-888-788-9910 and email him: gibsonradio@foxnews.com

I spread like AXE/ Girls Powchuckawowwow when they hear my Raps(c) Bishop Lamont

*Indian Man Voice(Red-dot)*

I am into hip-hop and its about love and connection, not butt hole pleasures or rusty trombones. But about Beats and Rhymes not Ass licking and goat fucking, But Swagger not Anal Rings and Roman Helmets. I love the connection I get with Song not Golden Showers and Faggotry but Straight Head Nodding Music Not BlueTooth action. *finishes*

Speaking of BlueTooth thats the new Word Du Jour around my way when Describing Hands Free Head. So you can go a head and spread the word on getting some Bluetooth.

I had a dream the other day that I had Dinner with Dikembe Mutombo and Hakeem Olajuwan and it was great convo. We Politicked about Foreign Policies, African Pussy, Hunting endangered Species for sport. Especially the Silver Back Gorilla which single handily between Hakeem, Deke and I we had killed about 200 hundred of them and all we did is eat their left eye for our own spirituality. And give the rest of the gorilla meat away to the natives, Charity deeds replenish the hearts goodness. (All this from a Dream)……..

Yo Can Princess Diana Rest in Peace, Sheesh I know she had incredible Swayze but all of her Posthumous albums were wack. True spit!………

Count on Superhead being more than just a footnote in a Hip-hop history course, she is a movement by herself and a force when she is together with a dick. She can be the New Kevin Bacon game ……..6 Degrees of Superhead aka Superdome aka Soak-n-Swallow. Imagine the endless possibilities. Yo Big up to Big Tigger who decided to engage in a gay tryst(allegedly) with a gizz swallower who has a big mouth figuratively and literally. Joe Clair is the Greatest host of Rap City!

I told Isaiah and Jimmy to settle. Anyways Browne-Sanders for a woman accusing of sexual harrassment she is quite the un-looker like the complete opposite of what I thought she would look like. As if somebody took a complete opposite picture of my mental picture of what a harrassee should look like. Browne-Sanders looks like a cross of the Predator and a Tough UFC fighter but add in the Vagina, I think. Marbury by the way is funniest dude in interviews ever. *pararphases* " A championship is just I championship *does wierd arm motions* ……. I have found god" ……If Marbury gets in trouble its ok, he will load up a truck with all kinds of 15 dollar kicks and 5 dollar shorts and hand them out in the hood. I cant be mad at that philanthropy, I bet PITA will find a way to get mad. "Dont ask Me Ask Pimp C"…. I hope Marbury has a good year on the court as well as off, I need me some more Marbury Interviews.

I am going to be waving my Ghostface Stanley Status high and proud like them Gays do. I will host up a Stanley Cup for my dude Ghost.
